For the time being Valleyview is not holding any public meetings. I am following closely recommendations from local, state and federal authorities as well as recommendations from the leadership of our denomination. At this point in time I am hoping we can resume public worship no later than June 7th, however everything is contingent on what happens next with COVID-19.
These are my priorities in deciding how to reopen public meetings at Valleyview:
- Providing a good witness for the name of Jesus to the community. I do not want Valleyview’s reopening of public worship to hurt our standing in the community.
- Respecting the authority of our local, state and federal governments. We have tremendous liberty as a religious institution. It also speaks well to local authorities when we are willing to cooperate with the spirit of what is trying to be achieved in stay at home orders and social distancing.
- Planning for as much safety as possible for our congregation. When we meet we will put priority on safety and social distancing meeting new requirements posted by local authorities. “As much safety as possible” will also mean waiting a little longer to resume public services.
- The community of worship is essential to the health of the Church. I understand how important it is to meet together. I know we have those in our congregation that are starving for social gathering. I do not want to wait any longer than necessary to gather together.
We live in times that none of us ever wanted or imagined we would face. Keep praying against this virus. Pray for our healthcare workers and first responders. Keep checking on one another, Let me know of needs in the congregation.
